The chatter in the video I would agree with the assessment the bearings were shot. An out of balance condition that would cause that much wheel movement would be really excessive in a wheel that size and it would be noticeable in vibration/sound. Use a 1/2" or narrower wheel. The narrower wheel reduces the amount of mass that can be out of balance.
A grinding wheel is a fragile tool which is to be used to get perfect service. proper mounting and balancing of the wheel are very important. Balancing is needed as wheels revolve at higher speed (many thousand r.p.m.) and any unbalanced centrifugal forces may crack the wheel or …
The success of your Surface Grinding process depends on grinding wheel speed, work or traverse feed, in-feed, coolant, balancing, and dressing of grinding wheel. Your Grinding Wheel speed is expressed as revolutions per minute or meters per second (peripheral speed).
Grinding machine-related factors can affect the workpiece surface finish. These include: Wheel/hub assembly balance: If the grinding wheel assembly is not balanced to an acceptable level, it can result in chatter and/or poor surface finish. Balancing can be carried out using equipment such as a static balancer, dynamic/manual balancer or an ...

A grinding wheel is an uneven object. When running, the vibration caused by the center of mass does not coincide with the center of the rotating shaft, which causes the problem of imbalance of the grinding wheel. Unbalanced situation analysis: Figure 4-5 Schematic diagram of several states of balance and imbalance of the grinding wheel
Grinding wheels are an indispensable tool for grinding. Whether the grinding wheel is suitable or not is an important condition that affects the quality of grinding and the cost of grinding. The company produces a series of surface grinders, which need to be equipped with different grinding wheels to adapt to the surface processing of ...
You must do static balancing followed by the proper dressing of your grinding wheel, before using it for grinding. While mounting a new wheel on your Surface Grinding Machine, it is a safe practice for you to stand aside and run the wheel for a full minute before starting the grinding.

Surface Grinding Wheel Balancing. To craftsmen who do work with tiles, wood, stone and others, grinders are precious to them. Surface grinding wheel must maintain its balance to keep its safety and good functionalities. There are some selected balancing devices used to balance the wheel by using balancing weights connected to the outer part and determine the best balance position.
Wheels of this size should not need balancing. Altering a wheel by drilling or any other method is at your own peril. The wheel should be centered on the adaptor with paper shims as wheels now are usually 32 mm and slightly oversize for the 1 1/4" adaptor. Then dress both sides and the peryphery and it should run fine.

Fred, I don't know what grinder you got but I think you will find that just changing the wheel and not the hub will be the best and fastest. First you don't have to balance the 7"" wheels used on the small surface grinders and second you will get tired of pulling the wheel mounting hubs off the spindle and it's completely unnecessary to do that.
Janderso said: I watched a video showing a slick way of balancing surface grinder wheels. Using the Sopko #52273 and #00576. You know, the rotating discs with 180 degrees of relief. This method runs over $300. Making a simple bushing and using bearings works great. This way I can use a carbide drill bit and remove material outside The blotter ...

grinding wheel correctly will result in an out-of-balance wobbling motion, creating an improper grinding surface and a potentially hazardous situation. Following the steps below will help you properly install and align a wheel that might otherwise appear to be "out of balance" or defective. Aligning The Wheel Before completing the installation ...

For precision grinding wheels, such as surface grinding wheels, the arrow says to "Mount up." For rough grinding wheels, such as foundry snagging wheels, it says to "Mount down." By following this arrow the amount of imbalance in the machine spindle will be at its lowest and the grinding process will not suffer from excessive vibration.
Wheel balancing is an important part of flat grinding. An unbalanced wheel will produce a poor surface finish and shorten the life of you spindle bearings. Wheel balance should be checked during the life of the wheel as it will change as the diameter is reduced. Diamond Selection and Set Up. As a rule of thumb, the minimum size diamond should ...

Set grinding parameters and grinding wheel geometry parameters, and define the grid size of workpiece, using the topology matrix g mn. Each value g ij (i = 1,2,…,m; j = 1,2,…,n) in the topology matrix represents the z height at the point (m, n) on the workpiece surface. Before grinding, the initial workpiece surface matrix g mn is set to zero.

SURFACE. GRINDING. Surface grindingis used to produce a smooth finish on flatsurfaces. It is a widely used abrasive machining process in which a spinning wheel covered in rough particles (grinding wheel) cuts chips of metallic or non-metallic substance from a work piece, making a face of it flat or smooth.. 1 12/9/15. Work piece is secured on a chuck attached to
5. Move the grinding wheel down using the vertical table handwheel until it barely makes contact with the dresser. 6. Turn the machine off after making contact with the dresser. 7. Turn the machine on again. While the wheel is spinning, lower the grinding wheel down in the Z direction until it makes a small plume of dust. 8.
Here are 8 easy steps to help you balance your bench grinder wheels: Step 1. first, ring your wheels - here you have to take your wheel off and tie a piece of rope or twine through the center so the wheel can dangle in mid-air.Then take a small object and tap the wheel. If you hear a nice tone, then the wheel is fine and the out of balance issue is in your grinder.
To obtain precise dimensions and fine surface quality, the grinding vibration should be greatly well controlled. One of factors on grinding vibration is the balance of grinding wheel, which is evaluated in term of the amount of unbalance. It causes wheel vibrate during grinding, which is assessed by the term of jumpiness of wheel.
In this video I balance a surface grinder grinding wheel on the balancing frame and arbor from the previous videos.
